How a Vietnamese mobile number is built

Every Vietnamese mobile number is 9 digits after the +84 country code, or 10 with the domestic trunk 0: 0912 345 678 becomes +84 912 345 678 from abroad. Mobiles start with 3, 5, 7, 8, or 9. Numbering is managed by the Vietnam Telecommunications Authority.

The 2018 switch to 10 digits

Until 2018 many Vietnamese mobiles had 11 digits. Between September 2018 and mid-2019, around 60 million of them were shortened to 10 digits with new prefixes: Viettelโ€™s 0162-0169 became 032-039, MobiFoneโ€™s 0120 became 070, VinaPhoneโ€™s 0123 became 083, and so on. Older contact lists and test fixtures still sometimes hold the 11-digit forms, which are no longer valid.

A note on the โ€œ555โ€ in these numbers

Vietnam has no official block of fictional phone numbers. The 555 after the prefix is this siteโ€™s own marker to make generated numbers read as test data. They pass format checks but are not guaranteed to be unassigned.

FAQ

Will a generated number verify on Zalo or MoMo? No. Both send a code to a real SIM, and a dummy number has no SIM behind it. Use generated numbers to fill and test the form, not to pass a real verification step.

Are 11-digit Vietnamese mobile numbers still valid? No. Since the 2018-2019 conversion, all mobiles are 10 digits domestically. An old 016X number now starts with 03X.

What you can use them for

What they are not

These numbers cannot receive SMS or OTP codes. They are not temporary, virtual, or disposable inbox numbers. If you need to actually receive a verification code in Vietnam, you need a real SIM or a paid virtual number service - this is the wrong tool for that.

Is it legal to use a fake phone number?

Yes, for testing, demos, documentation, and mockups. Using any number - fake or real - to impersonate someone, commit fraud, or get around a verification step you're required to complete is not.

These numbers are randomly generated dummy data. They are not real, cannot receive SMS or OTP codes, and are not temporary or disposable inbox numbers. Use them for testing, examples, documentation, UI mockups, and seed data only.
