How a Moroccan mobile number is built

Every Moroccan phone number is 9 digits after the +212 country code. Mobile numbers start with 6 or 7; the 07 series was opened after the original 06 range filled up. Written domestically they carry a trunk 0, usually in pairs: 06 12 34 56 78. Internationally the 0 is dropped: +212 6 12 34 56 78.

The plan is managed by the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT). Three operators share the mobile ranges: Maroc Telecom, Orange Maroc, and inwi.

Number portability has been available since 2007, and since April 2024 a switch between operators is free and done within one business day. So the first digits of a real number no longer reliably tell you the operator.

A note on the โ€œ555โ€ in these numbers

Morocco has no official block of fictional phone numbers. The 555 placed after the 6 or 7 is this siteโ€™s own marker to make generated numbers read as test data. They have a valid Moroccan shape, so they pass format checks, but they are not guaranteed to be unassigned.

FAQ

Will a generated number verify on a Moroccan banking or delivery app? No. Those apps send a code by SMS to a real SIM, and a dummy number has no SIM behind it. Use generated numbers to fill and test the form, not to pass a real verification step.

Why do Moroccan mobiles start with 06 or 07? 06 was the original mobile range. When it began to run out, ANRT opened 07. Both work the same way and are the same length.

How do I write a Moroccan number for an international form? Drop the trunk 0 and add +212: 06 12 34 56 78 becomes +212 612345678. Turn on the country code toggle above to get that format.

What you can use them for

What they are not

These numbers cannot receive SMS or OTP codes. They are not temporary, virtual, or disposable inbox numbers. If you need to actually receive a verification code in Morocco, you need a real SIM or a paid virtual number service - this is the wrong tool for that.

Is it legal to use a fake phone number?

Yes, for testing, demos, documentation, and mockups. Using any number - fake or real - to impersonate someone, commit fraud, or get around a verification step you're required to complete is not.

These numbers are randomly generated dummy data. They are not real, cannot receive SMS or OTP codes, and are not temporary or disposable inbox numbers. Use them for testing, examples, documentation, UI mockups, and seed data only.
