How a Malaysian mobile number is built

Malaysian mobile numbers start with 1 after the +60 country code, and most are 9 digits: 012-345 6789 domestically, +60 12-345 6789 from abroad. Two ranges are one digit longer: numbers starting 011 and 015 have an 8-digit subscriber part, so theyโ€™re 10 digits after +60. This generator produces the common 9-digit form.

Numbering is regulated by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Operator prefixes at a glance

Celcom and Digi merged in 2022 to form CelcomDigi, and number portability means a real numberโ€™s prefix shows the original operator, not necessarily the current one.

A note on the โ€œ555โ€ in these numbers

Malaysia has no official block of fictional phone numbers. The 555 after the prefix is this siteโ€™s own marker to make generated numbers read as test data. They pass format checks but are not guaranteed to be unassigned.

FAQ

Will a generated number verify on Touch โ€™n Go eWallet or Grab? No. Both send a code to a real SIM, and a dummy number has no SIM behind it. Use generated numbers to fill and test the form, not to pass a real verification step.

Why are some Malaysian mobile numbers longer? Numbers starting 011 (and 015) have an 8-digit subscriber part instead of 7, so they have one extra digit. The 011 range was added as the original mobile ranges filled up.

How do I write a Malaysian number for WhatsApp or an international form? Drop the leading 0 and add +60: 012-345 6789 becomes +60 12-345 6789, or +60123456789 without spaces. Turn on the country code toggle above to get that format.

What you can use them for

What they are not

These numbers cannot receive SMS or OTP codes. They are not temporary, virtual, or disposable inbox numbers. If you need to actually receive a verification code in Malaysia, you need a real SIM or a paid virtual number service - this is the wrong tool for that.

Is it legal to use a fake phone number?

Yes, for testing, demos, documentation, and mockups. Using any number - fake or real - to impersonate someone, commit fraud, or get around a verification step you're required to complete is not.

These numbers are randomly generated dummy data. They are not real, cannot receive SMS or OTP codes, and are not temporary or disposable inbox numbers. Use them for testing, examples, documentation, UI mockups, and seed data only.
