How a Chinese mobile number is built
Every mainland Chinese mobile number is 11 digits and starts with 1,
followed by a second digit from 3 to 9. The first three digits form the
network block, assigned by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology
(MIIT), and the remaining eight identify the subscriber. Internationally it is
written +86 followed by the same 11 digits - unlike many countries, there is
no trunk 0 to drop.
A dummy number from this page, such as +86 13055500000, uses a real network
block and the correct length, so it passes the validation Chinese signup forms
run, while the 555 that follows keeps it clear of real subscribers.
Network blocks at a glance
The first three digits tell you which carrier originally issued the number:
- China Mobile -
134-139,150-152,157-159,178,182-184,187,188,198 - China Unicom -
130-132,155,156,166,175,176,185,186 - China Telecom -
133,153,173,177,180,181,189,191,199
Mobile number portability went nationwide in 2019, so a block now shows the original carrier, not necessarily the current one.
China phone number format and example (+86)
- Example (fake):
+86 130 5550 0000 - Domestic:
138 1234 5678- an 11-digit number, often grouped 3-4-4. - International:
+86 138 1234 5678. - Landlines use area codes (
010Beijing,021Shanghai,020Guangzhou) - this generator produces mobile numbers only.
Hong Kong (+852) and Macau (+853) have their own numbering plans and
separate country codes; this page covers mainland China only.
A note on the โ555โ in these numbers
China has no officially reserved block of fictional phone numbers. The 555
placed after the network block is our own marker to make generated numbers
obviously non-real - it is not an allocation MIIT sets aside for examples.
FAQ
How many digits is a Chinese phone number?
Eleven for mobiles, all starting with 1. With the country code that becomes
+86 plus 11 digits.
Will a random Chinese number work for WeChat, Alipay, or Taobao? No. Chinese services verify a real, real-name-registered SIM by SMS, and a dummy number has neither a SIM nor a registered owner behind it. Use these numbers to test your form and validation, not to register an account.
Why do my test numbers need a 13X-19X prefix?
Chinese mobile validation checks the network block, so a number like
12345678901 fails even though it is 11 digits. Every number this generator
produces starts with a block carriers actually use.
What you can use them for
- Filling phone fields while testing signup, checkout, or profile forms
- Seed data for a database or a demo environment
- Screenshots, tutorials, and UI mockups that need a realistic number
- Example numbers in documentation
What they are not
These numbers cannot receive SMS or OTP codes. They are not temporary, virtual, or disposable inbox numbers. If you need to actually receive a verification code in China, you need a real SIM or a paid virtual number service - this is the wrong tool for that.
Is it legal to use a fake phone number?
Yes, for testing, demos, documentation, and mockups. Using any number - fake or real - to impersonate someone, commit fraud, or get around a verification step you're required to complete is not.
