How an Argentine mobile number is built
Argentine mobile numbers have a quirk that trips up most validators: the
format changes depending on where you dial from. A mobile number is an area
code plus a local number, 10 digits together - 11 for Buenos Aires
plus 8 digits, or 351 for Cรณrdoba plus 7.
- From abroad you add a 9 after the country code:
+54 9 11 1234-5678. - Within Argentina you instead add 15 after the area code:
011 15 1234-5678.
So the international form has 11 digits after +54 - the 9, the area code,
and the local number. Numbers from this generator follow that international
shape. The numbering plan is managed by ENACOM
(Ente Nacional de Comunicaciones).
Area codes used here
Generated numbers use real area codes from the largest cities: 11 Buenos
Aires, 351 Cรณrdoba, 341 Rosario, 261 Mendoza, 221 La Plata,
381 San Miguel de Tucumรกn, 223 Mar del Plata, 342 Santa Fe, 387
Salta, and 299 Neuquรฉn.
Argentina phone number format and example (+54)
- Example (fake):
+54 9 11 5550 0000 - International mobile:
+54 9 [area code] [local number] - Domestic mobile:
0 [area code] 15 [local number] - Landlines drop both:
+54 11 1234-5678from abroad,011 1234-5678at home. This generator produces mobile numbers only.
The three operators, Claro, Movistar, and Personal, share the same ranges, and ENACOM-regulated number portability means a number can move between them.
A note on the โ555โ in these numbers
Argentina has no official block of fictional numbers. The 555 after the
area code is this siteโs own marker to make generated numbers read as test
data. They pass format checks, but they are not guaranteed to be unassigned.
FAQ
Why do Argentine WhatsApp numbers have a 9 after +54?
Because WhatsApp stores numbers in international format, and Argentine mobiles
need the 9 in that format. A number saved as +54 11 ... without the 9 is
treated as a landline and wonโt match the WhatsApp account.
Will a generated number verify on Mercado Libre or a bank app? No. They send a code by SMS to a real SIM, and a dummy number has no SIM behind it. Use generated numbers to fill and test the form, not to pass a real verification step.
Where did the 15 go?
15 is only for dialing a mobile within Argentina. From abroad itโs replaced
by the 9 before the area code, which is the format generated here.
What you can use them for
- Filling phone fields while testing signup, checkout, or profile forms
- Seed data for a database or a demo environment
- Screenshots, tutorials, and UI mockups that need a realistic number
- Example numbers in documentation
What they are not
These numbers cannot receive SMS or OTP codes. They are not temporary, virtual, or disposable inbox numbers. If you need to actually receive a verification code in Argentina, you need a real SIM or a paid virtual number service - this is the wrong tool for that.
Is it legal to use a fake phone number?
Yes, for testing, demos, documentation, and mockups. Using any number - fake or real - to impersonate someone, commit fraud, or get around a verification step you're required to complete is not.
