How a UK mobile number is built
Every UK mobile number is 10 digits after the +44 country code, always
starting with 7 under Ofcomโs National Telephone Numbering Plan.
Mobile blocks run 071-075 and 077-079; 076 is carved out for
pagers and personal numbering, not mobiles, so this generator skips it.
Written domestically thatโs 07XXX XXXXXX (11 digits including the trunk
0); drop the 0 for the international form, giving the 10-digit shape of
+44 7155500000 from this generator.
UK phone number format and example (+44)
- Example (fake):
+44 7155 500000 - International:
+44 7XXX XXXXXX. - Domestic:
07XXX XXXXXX- the leading0is a national trunk prefix, dropped when dialing from abroad. - Landlines use geographic area codes (
020London,0161Manchester, and so on) - this generator only produces the mobile format.
Mobile number portability has applied in the UK since 1999, so a 07XXX
block tells you which network the number was originally issued on, not
which one itโs on today - EE, O2, Vodafone, Three, and their MVNOs all
share the same shared ranges.
A note on the โ555โ in these numbers
The UK actually runs the most complete official fake-number system of any
country on this site. Ofcom reserves 07700 900000-900999 for fictional
mobile numbers, plus matching blocks for Freephone (08081 570000-570999),
premium-rate (0909 8790000-8790999), and UK-wide (03069 990000-990999)
numbers - and even an entire fake area code, 01632, for any fictional
landline. All of it exists so film, TV, and radio writers never risk
dialing a real subscriber on air.
This generatorโs 555 convention is the North American tradition, not
Ofcomโs own scheme - numbers here are phone-shaped and safe for forms and
fixtures, but if you specifically need the UKโs own officially-reserved
range, 07700 900XXX is the correct choice (full list of UK drama
numbers).
FAQ
Are these the same as the โ07700 900โ numbers used in British TV and film?
No - 07700 900000-900999 is Ofcomโs own guaranteed-safe block for
broadcast and creative use. Numbers from this generator are dummy data for
software testing, not a substitute for that official range.
Will a generated number verify on a UK app or bank sign-up?
It will pass real format validation - including libphonenumber-style checks
that reject the non-mobile 076 block, since this generator only uses
real mobile prefixes. It cannot receive the actual SMS a verification step
sends, because thereโs no SIM behind it.
What you can use them for
- Filling phone fields while testing signup, checkout, or profile forms
- Seed data for a database or a demo environment
- Screenshots, tutorials, and UI mockups that need a realistic number
- Example numbers in documentation
What they are not
These numbers cannot receive SMS or OTP codes. They are not temporary, virtual, or disposable inbox numbers. If you need to actually receive a verification code in United Kingdom, you need a real SIM or a paid virtual number service - this is the wrong tool for that.
Is it legal to use a fake phone number?
Yes, for testing, demos, documentation, and mockups. Using any number - fake or real - to impersonate someone, commit fraud, or get around a verification step you're required to complete is not.
